Goyard Bag History

Goyard is the oldest leather goods manufacturer still in business, having been established in Paris in 1853. In less than a year, Louis Vuitton was established. When compared to other leading luxury bag labels like Hermes, Chanel, and Louis Vuitton, the company is still privately held and has the fewest number of retail stores. Edmond Goyard produced the famous Goyardine canvas in 1892, although it wasn't given the name Goyardine until 1982. The sign of the interlocking Ys and dots represents the Goyard Y and the family's tradition as log drivers.

After buying Goyard from the family in 1998, Jean-Michel Signoles expanded the company's French workshops and created new outlets in North America, Europe, Asia, and South America. New colors such as red, orange, yellow, green, sky blue, navy blue, burgundy, white, and gray were also introduced by Signoles. Up until the early 2000s, Goyard painted its iconic Goyardine by hand. After that, it switched to mechanical screen printing. A Goyard craftsman still paints the personalizations by hand.

Goyard provides four product types: special orders, travel goods, men's and women's bags and accessories, and pet items. Goyard allows its customers to customize their special orders in any way. Designers, chiefs of state, royals, and celebrities all like Goyard. Goyard was owned by Karl Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel. Karl also had custom pieces made for Choupette, his cat.

Goyardine is composed of hemp, linen, and cotton and is treated with a special water-proofing technique to make it more durable. One of the reasons Goyard bags and totes are so well-liked is their stain-on and water-resistant material, Goyardine.

Goyard Tote: Saint Louis

The Goyard Saint Louis tote was designed in the 1930s and is now the most popular Goyard bag. When it comes to the size of bags, you don't need to worry about that. The Goyard Saint Louis comes in three sizes (PM, GM, and XXL) and has a separate pouch. It's up to you whether you want to carry that pouch with the bag or separately. For various reasons, the junior-size bags are not manufactured. The Saint Louis PM and Saint Louis GM are the most common sizes.

Limited Edition Goyard Tote: Saint Louis Claire-Voie

Goyard recently released the Special Edition Goyard Saint Louis Claire-Voie. There is a pearl of great wisdom behind the name Saint Louis Claire-Voie. The Saint Louis Claire-Voie is named after a phrase commonly used in architecture and ornamental arts. The Goyard design looks special because of the colorful triangles on the edges, created by the crossing lines. As PM and GM are the most demanding sizes, they have a limited outcome. These bags come in five different colors, including green, red, orange, blue, and pink.

Goyard Tote: Anjou

The Goyard Anjou tote and Goyard Saint Louis are quite the same in terms of attributes except for the outer layer. The Goyard Anjou tote is lined with leather and reversible. It also features a detachable pouch. The Goyard Anjou comes in four different sizes: Mini, PM, MM, and GM.

Goyard Tote: Artois

Another most demanding Goyard tote is the Artois, which differs from the Goyard Saint Louis to some extent. It has a more structured shape with four leather bottom corners and a unique zip closure. These leather bottoms make this bag different from other bags. It does not have a separate pouch, but it does have an interior pocket. The Goyard Artois comes in two sizes: PM and MM.

Limited Edition Goyard Totes

Goyard has released limited edition Saint Louis bags in previous years. In 2024, Goyard introduced a turquoise Goyard Saint Louis GM with a complimentary beach towel. The Balise" pattern on the towel shows pictures of floating buoys. This seems quite cool when you have a matching towel with your bag. The new edition in 2024 celebrates the ocean's amazing size and beauty. The ocean theme is chosen to make people feel amazed at how big and beautiful nature can be. The turquoise blue Goyardine canvas honors the colors of the South Seas. Goyard also released a turquoise Goyard Anjour PM with seashores embroidered on both the canvas and leather sides as part of its 2024 limited edition line. These limited-edition Goyard totes are ideal for summer.

Goyard Tote Bag Prices

When it comes to prices, it's evident that the price of Goyard would be relative to other luxury bags. Goyard increases its prices annually, as do other luxury goods. Goyard recently updated its pricing so that standard and special colors now come at the same price. Because of this pricing move, the price of a black Goyard St Louis PM increased by 26% in 2022 compared to 2021. In 2021, the number of special colors increased by only 10%. The Goyard tote costs roughly $1,600 for the Saint Louis PM, $1,900 for the Saint Louis GM, and $2,300 for the Saint Louis XXL. Because of the amount of leather used in the Goyard totes, Anjour and Artois are more expensive for similar sizes as the Goyard Saint Louis. Limited-edition totes command even higher costs.
